El balance del tour de periodismo digital organizado por El Tiempo no dejó muy bien parados a los grandes medios de América Latina ni a las universidades.
¿La razón? Aún no se descifra la manera de hacer un pensum complementario para llenar el vacío de gestión de contenidos on line, según pudimos confirmar al asistir a este seminario realizado en Cali, Colombia.
En un estudio realizado por Sergio Llano, investigador de la Universidad de la Sabana, mostró a los asistentes que muy pocos sitios hacen realmente periodismo digital. Es decir que pasan del “Copy – paste” a una cadena de evolución que apenas empieza con saber actualizar y ser instantáneo.
Esa cadena incluye:
- saber escribir para internet
- saber manejar el lenguaje hipermedia (el uso de hiperenlaces)
- saber contextualizar información
- saber profundiazarla (acceso a archivos, busquedas internas, investigaciones)
- saber provocar interactividad (que no es tener solo una “encuesta” o “formularios” sino crecer con la comunidad y dar la opción para generar contenidos)
- manejar niveles de personalización (no solo de registro, sino alertas, uso de RSS, entre otras)
- Aprovechar recursos multimedia ( galerías fotográficas, infografías animadas, flash, audio y vídeo)
- Gestión de “contenido para llevar”, palms, telefonía IP, teleconferencias, recursos inalámbricos.
Medios que están en esa línea en la región son pocos: El Clarin de Argentina, uno de ellos (el País de Cali en Colombia y El Universo de Ecuador están más cerca de esa línea). En España, destaca el El Mundo y en habla inglesa el referente es el Washington Post
Los blogs frente a los medios -se concluyó como en encuentros similares- dan una lección de ¨humildad” a los grandes medios por su intuición para incursionar en estas áreas y su poder para democratizar la informacón.
La otra lección es que empresas de tecnología que nada tenían que ver con la historia de los mass media están ganándole la audiencia a los medios tradicionales con iniciativas como google news , así que o se buscan la manera de integrarse o podrían terminar perdiendo sus lectores, oyentes o televidentes.
La formación del periodista en estas multihabilidades es clave porque es quien debe saber procesar el exceso de información al que ahora la comunidad se enfrenta: ahogada en abundancia pero sedienta de información…

Esta página “Cobertura Digital” esta bastante completa y recopila información de otras páginas que hablan sobre el perodismo digital, como conclusión se puede decir que el periodismo digital rompe con el periodismo tradicional, es periodismo en la red.
Los periodistas digitales son gente jóven que gracias a este método, buscan la forma de informar globalmente y no seccional.
Esta es una forma interactiva que rompe con la comunicación lineal y unidereccional.

El peirodismo digital si tiene grandes ventajas frente a la prensa escrita. Por esta razón es fundamental que los medios tradicionales pongan su información en la red, pero no como una simple reproducción del último ejemplar del diario, esto como ya lo hemos entendido no es hacer peirodismo digital.
Las oportunidades a la mano de quien quiera hacer periodismo digital son múltiplies y diversas. Utilizar el recurso multimedia es importante, ya que esta sirve para dotar de video y sonido a un producto informativo. Gracias a al multimedia su pueden complementar de manera gigantezca a un frío texto escrito, además la audiencia entenderá mucho más lo sucedido viendo la secuenacia de lo hechos con sus sonidos reales.
Por otra parte es importante rescatar la facultad del periodismo digital para la retoalimentación o feedback. Según la página de Cátedra de Procesamiento de Datos, para que exista este proceso debe haber dos pasos previos, que son:
Codificación: es la traducción del mensaje de la comunicación a un ‘idioma’ o código adecuado para el medio por el que se transmite y para los que lo reciban.
Decodificación: es el proceso inverso al de codificación, de retraducción del mensaje de la comunicación con el fin de extraer su significado.
Y por último la retroalimentación o feedback, que es un proceso circular e interpersonal que permite el intercambio de roles entre el emisor y el receptor.

Además la retroalimentación digital no solo consiste en dejar un buzon o una dirección para que el lector puede enviar sus comentarios. Este proceso digital también conprende una relación contínua entre el medio y el receptor, así como una interacción entre receptores en los foros preparados para estos debates.
Según la misma página existen varias formas de realizar este proceso:
Cartas al director.- en ellas se recogen diferentes opiniones de lectores sobre algún tema en concreto o pidiendo alguna rectificación e incluso enjuiciando a algún colaborador del periódico. La ventaja que aportan los periódicos digitales es que se publican la mayoría de las “cartas al director” recibidas.
El defensor del lector.- También conocido como ombudsman es una figura cuyo origen es reciente. Dos ejemplos de periódicos que cuentan con esta figura son La Vanguardia y El País. Ambos escriben artículos, de periodicidad semanal, en los que intentan responder a las quejas razonables de los lectores.
Encuestas en línea.- Las encuestas en línea son la vía más común empleada por el medio para establecer la comunicación con el público. Mediante éstas, el periódico digital puede conocer la opinión del lector y facilitar su difusión, ya que suelen ir acompañadas de un enlace para enviar la noticia a una dirección de correo electrónico. Además, hay dos modalidades básicas: las encuestas sobre temas de actualidad en secciones de participación en las que también se incluyen enlaces a los chats, foros, etc. y por otro lado las encuestas asociadas a cada noticia que el usuario lee en su pantalla.
Foros.- Permite una comunicación directa entre emisor y receptor en los dos sentidos, pero también la intercomunicación de todos los receptores entre sí. Así, se acaba con la tradición de la comunicación de masas.
Servicios online.- Ofrece una serie de servicios adicionales: posibilidad de crear weblogs personales, información climática actualizada y buscadores de información.
En definitiva las autores del texto que sirvió de base para este comentario, Daiana Schvartz – Laura Esplugas – María Varela, han definido de la mejor manera posible las oportunidades que brindea el peirodismo digital, en cuanto al recurso de interactividad, recurso que cada vez está dando más versatilidad al mundo de la comuniación de masas.
Tema clave. Es necesario saber, en especial, cómo marcha el periodismo ciudadano, qué tan bien lo está haciendo y en qué medida puede estar influyendo en los medios tradicionales. Ojalá la segunda encuesta de El Tiempo aporte toda la fidelidad que le sea posible.
